    Large Loft - Conversion

Couple of things to add now finished- When I finished doing all the truss timbers and tightened all the coach bolts up, it was a good few weeks before it was boarded up. Just before I boarded up the roof I thought I'd check all the bolts for tightness. They were a bit loose! even though I had...

    Large Loft - Conversion

both were 10,620    409d x 176w. Getting each section up the first floor (carpeted) stairs was hard work, took three very strong chaps. (inc me :) ) didnt even mark the carpet. Had to use a mechanical winch to lift them thru the new stair well. Each end sits on...

    Large Loft - Conversion

£12k in all. Three radiators??? aha! All three rads are plumbed into the GCH but they are also plumbed into the Living room log burner with grundfos pump (50 metre of coiled microbore packed tightly to the back of fire). Each rad can be used/isoloated however you want. Works a treat. Main...

Excellent stairs, but very heavy when fitting! When first starting to climb them its a little weird as you need to always start with the right foot.. They are quite steep but decent handrails make them safer. And they take very little of the bedroom up.

They came from a job/surplus cheap. Bit stronger is good and will also help protect the great big steels.

    Large Loft - Conversion

Floor board to ceiling is 2250 (88.5") The houses in our road are all different and all about 350-500k. It will probably put about £40k on the house, being a large additional 6th bedroom. I did think about dividing it & en suite etc but we have three bathrooms & two showers already. I'm...

    Large Loft - Conversion

I'm a builder/bricklayer. I'm the daft arse that built the house without doing the loft in the first place, with no load bearing walls upstairs! Unfortunately I only just had enough cash at the time to do things the cheap way. Here's a web page from when I built the house. Just a few words...
