    Thanks Burnerman, this really wasn't a wind up, I've recently moved into a cottage in the Scottish Highlands that has the coal fire and I've never used one before. I have cleaned out the vent at the bottom and adjusted the damper and this has had a positive result. I can have a soak in the bath...

    I have a coal fire that is meant to heat the water for the house, it does but it doesn't get very hot. What can I do to change this???
