Given that it is the front of a house in a conservation area I would think that mortar would look better. Would polysulphide give better sealing?

the new render went on top of the old render where it was sound. Where it was unsound it was hacked away and repaired witih mortar

The side wall did not have brickwork, it had sand and cement render which simply went to the corner. You can see a strip of it in the picture.
