Not paying full amount for bad work.

I asked the builder if he needed drawings for the construction of the garage and he said "I have done this hundreds of times, you don't need drawings". He, himself, specified the 500mm foundations and the blocks for the garage. Does this mean that the builder is responsible? As for the...

Not paying full amount for bad work.

Breeze blocks on the garage and the extension. But to be honest, if the builder had left expansion gaps on the kitchen worktop, I do not think any of this would have happened. The structural engineer also thought in both cases the blocks should have been concrete. But as the footings for my...

Not paying full amount for bad work.

No. Building control have passed the build. The cracks appeared afterwards in the extension. because the garage is less than 30m2 and at the bottom of our garden, I believe it does not require building regs. I'll post some photos.

Not paying full amount for bad work.

Hello all, I have had a extension built. Basically several things have gone wrong, such as a cracks in external wall, badly blown render, crack in internal wall. The cracks are straight through the breeze block they are not plaster cracks, these cracks have been caused by not fitting a...

Vertical cracks straight through breeze block

Once again thank you for the replies. I was told by my builder, that because it is 30m2 and 70 feet away from the house, building control do not need to get involved. When the builder was doing the footings I noticed he placed rubble in them...what depth of rubble should you have for a...

Vertical cracks straight through breeze block

Thanks for the replies! The ground conditions are indeed clay. Can I reasonably have expected the builder to have known that he should have gone down to "virgin" clay? He is telling me that he has built "hundreds of garages and this has never happened" and is expecting me to pay further...

Vertical cracks straight through breeze block

Hello, I had a garage built 4 months ago and it has suddenly developed vertical cracks, from floor to ceiling in three of the walls. I know they are straight through the breeze block because I had the builder remove some of the rendering across the crack. The crack is less than 1mm but...

    Heat reflective double glazed windows

Many thanks for that. The window in question is a bathroom window and the frosted side is inside, which would mean the frosted glass has the heat reflective treatment, is that the way you would build the windows? I would have thought a company would have a load of clear glass with the...

    Heat reflective double glazed windows

Hello, I recently had some double glazed windows fitted as part of a new extension. They all have a sticker on the window pane which says "Interior side", I am guessing this is the reflective side. However one of the windows was fitted with the sticker on the exterior side, i.e. the...
