When to fit type C RCBOs?

Type C breakers are used for high starting/inrush current`s or like me,if the supplier has run out of type B`s  getting hold of type B RCBO`s is a mare at the moment. The only real problem is the allowable max Zs`s of these type C`s Example... Type B 32A BS7671 states a max Zs of...

    Shower trips another flat`s supply?

Got back to the office today to hear of a strange problem some of our guy`s were called to...any idea`s? A house converted to two flat`s,one up,one down. Each flat has been given it`s own supply TNC-S and each flat has a consumer unit, metal clad with 100A 30mA main isolator. When the...

    Electric cooker connection

Yes what your plan is sound. Even if half of the circuit is covered in *earthed metal and half isn`t then the whole circuit still needs RCD protection, which you have. * metal capping does`nt offer good protection from nails,so in my eyes fails on this need.

    *OVERLOADS or shorts :(

Conservatory power and lighting from existing FCU

Very true Gary ...If the FCU was replaced with one with integral RCD. However if the op just extended the circuit from a standard FCU then any earth faults would zip past the BS1362, as they will only pick up over currents or shorts .

Both RCD's trip at the same time.

I work for my local council doing PIR`s on voids and since i started i come across borrowed neutrals at least once a week (on installs 10 years plus) .....NIGHTMARE !!!!

    main bonding who is right

As near as practicable, so if the only part of the pipe that you can strap an earth clamp around, comes up through the floor either 3 or 30 foot from the meter then that`s good enough for the reg`s .

Conservatory power and lighting from existing FCU

As long as the Zs reading at the furthest point in your soon to be extended circuit does`nt excede the value stated for the mcb/fuse which is protecting the original circuit that your fcu is on, in BS7671 then there is no reason why you can`t do what you plan to do. You could always play it...

New Chasing tool...Anyone using them/used them?

Hi Alan That tool in your link is for removing morter from around a brick, not for cutting into brick directly.

    clarify 17th please

Many a T.T installation were protected by a single RCD as an incomer, albeit 100mA t.d

    New Home....

The tricky part in this project is gaining access to the joists above to be able to drill holes where cables will pass through. Cable running parallel with the joists are the easy ones but trying to drill holes through the joists where access is a problem pushes the price up as it`s so time...
