    Electric Storage Heaters?

I used to have storage heaters in our old flat and I thought they were ****! If I were you I would find out about having LPG plumbed in as I think you would benefit in the long run.

    Preparing Earthed Cable

Is this a caase of Health and Safety coming in between the tradesman and his job again. H&S is important but at times I feel that we are so wrapped up in cootn wool that you cant feel the tools in your hands. Personally I would say that so long as you are careful and mindful of the fact that you...

How to put in a RCD?

I agree with both of the last two posts. As I am an electrician it is easy to look at it differently than a normal DIYer. As I said if you are unsure, call an electrician. Spark is right in saying an RCBO is a suitable device but I too would echo his comment about the cost, the are quite...

How to put in a RCD?

The busbar is normally covered except wherre it is exposed for the MCB to be attached to. I believe on most if not all consumer units that this cover can be removed.

How to put in a RCD?

It is providing that the diyer isolates the power to the consumer unit. Once the power is off, then it should be safe. If the diyer has access to a multimeter or avo, it wouldnt hurt to verify that there is no supply to the busbar that I mentioned in the previous post. As always if you are...

    Preparing Earthed Cable

That was the method I was taught at college. That way it saves damaging the insulation on the other cores.

How to put in a RCD?

geezer, do you have an MCB style consumer unit (fuse board)? If so, the next question is do you have any spare ways (unsused fuses or balnked of sections) If so isolate the power to the board by switching of the consumer unit. Then remove the unsed fuse(s) or blanking plates so that you have...

Combi Boiler sounds like plane taking off!

Tanks for that Masona, at least that brought a smile to my face. I had the front off the boiler and I noticed that the noise was coming from the top end of it CHris. I think that your suggestion may be the most appropriate, but I am open to any suggestion. I could do without replacing the boiler...

Combi Boiler sounds like plane taking off!

Is that a cleaning solution like redex for a car? I have since bled the radiators to no effect.

Combi Boiler sounds like plane taking off!

I am fairly sure that there is an inline isolator (the sort that requires a screw turned through 90º turn to shut off the water) that I could probably use to reduce pressure if that is the case. I will try it tonight. Thanks

Combi Boiler sounds like plane taking off!

Not that I am aware of, however, I am going to check the water pressure tonight when I get home as I have been advised that it could be that if the water was cut off at some point then there may be an air gap in the system and that the water pressure may need to be increased. Any thoughts?

Combi Boiler sounds like plane taking off!

Can anyone help me? I have a Stelrad group Ideal Sprint F combi boiler and this year for the first time (since it has got cold) Whenever I turn on the hot water whether it is by tap or by shower, there is a noise emitted that sounds like an airoplane taking off. It isn't a nocking or a pinking...
