Basically my pressure gauge has gone up to bar 3 and I need to reduce it. Can anyone help? Sensible advice please not daft philosophising!

Hi there, I have a Vaillant thermocompact boiler which i managed to overfill and the pressure bar has gone up to 3. The last time it reached this number it started leaking. How can I get the pressure down? If I let a tap run the gauge goes down but shoots right back up when the tap is turned...
