Yes, this was over 2 months ago and I haven't heard anything from the guy other than recieving his invoice which I paid immediately.
What pains me is that he came recoomended and usually recommendations are as good as anything. I shall be much more careful in future when taking...
OK, its been a while since my last update....
So, I got a copy or the original quote back from the insurers and it clearly states that the work involves removal & replacement of ceiling 3m x 2.5m, finish to match original.
Putting the finish aside, the guy has clearly broken the contract...
Not trying a scam at all - I just wanted my ceiling repaired as per the quote, but he obviously hasn't done so (replacing only part of ceiling and not matching the original finish being just 2 of the issues).
Regardless of your opion of Artex, the general concensus on here is that he has done...
Cost to replace dining room ceiling £485 of which we have to pay £100 excess. We've got no cliams discount protection so hopefully next years premium wont be hit.
The porch was outside not part of the claim and I am paying out my own pocket.
The insurers sent me acheque to cover the claim...
Direct Line are involved because this is an insurance claim (for the dining room ceiling). He also replaced our porch ceiling which we agreed an additional £80 for (payig out of my own pocket).
I have offered him materials for dining room (£20) and £80 for porch despite not being fully...
I'm certainly not the biggest fan or Artex, but thought that it would be better to have it considering the rest of the house is Artexed.
Anyway, been in touch with Direct Line, asking them to send me any correspondance they have in relation to the claim.
Got a plasterer coming round tomorrow...
Well, he's been round, has filled out the join a bit more and said he will come back next week to finish off.
I got a neighbour (prof decorator, but not a ceiling / artex expert) to take a look. His reaction was one of horror - especially considering what we're being charged for the job...
Not the biggest fan of artex myself, but given that all the ceilings in the house are artexed, I wanted the repair to look the same (which obviously it doesn't!). Anyway, thanks for your constructive input Alarm NOT!
Freddy..... As I said earlier, if I had got someone round to do it on the...
Not the neatest cut around the pipes.
Clearly see the join (new board on right)
Not what I'd consider a professional finish

Yes it was vague - I will be speaking with my insurers in the morning to see if they had any contact with him for more specific details of the quote. If he has told them that it is to replace the whole ceiling (like he told us), then I think there may be a but of an issue there.
No, the...
1. The written quote was rather vague (I'm still looking for my copy). I had told him that the insurance wanted measurements and costs broken down into labout and materials. Not sure if the insurance contacted him directly - will speak to them in the morning.
2. True, but got neighbours round...
My ceiling was water damaged. Got a quote from a decoratoe to replace the ceiling with artex to match the ajoinging room.
Was quoted £485 to replace (room is approx 14' x 10'). The decorator only replaced the damged area (1 plasterboard wide) and then artexed the entire ceiling.
A number...
Found a plumbing supplier with the dual flush 30 miles away.
Ok, so I wanted a single flush but they didnt have any in stock.
Anyway, replacement valve now installed and working fine.
Now to try and put the vanity unit back together without flooding the bathroom again!!!!
Thanks for all...
Anyone know where I can get hold of a Niagra?
Best I've found so far is around £35 with next day delivery (hopefully they have one in stock).
Oh, and I didn't mention that I've managed to cause a major leak when removing (or rather re-connecting) the wash basin that is part of the same...
Yes, its a pneumatic Niagra (we have the Vantage concealed cistern).
Having taken a look at the Fluidmaster, I think the button is much smaller. The Dudley button is a round 73.5mm diameter one, so obviously the Fluidmaster would be too small for the hole in the vanity unit panel.
The...
