Thanks Dave. The cupboard with the pump, valve and emersion heater is bone dry. Do you think that getting a new valve is a good starting point ? If so, would it benefit me to get the same make and model again, or go for a different one ?

I'm not sure if this has been covered before. I have a Baxi Solo 2 boiler, a PTS Pump 5, and an ACL Lifestyle Mid Position Valve (22mm). The valve is set to H (Heating). When I turn on my heating, after a short while there is a loud bang from the valve, and the main heating fuse (3 amp)...
