    Wood lice

It is not an old problem as I have monitored it and there is a renewal of the problem. Thing is they are always dead, crisp. I wonder if they are living in the slates and coming through and drying out. I have crawled into the eaves with a torch and found no evidence of damp timbers at all...

    Wood lice

My 100 year old red sandstone semi has an infestation of (dead) woodlice on the attic floor, maybe about 100 lying dead up there. I have crawled all over it and can't find damp timbers and there is no leak that I can find. There is sarking felt under some of the slates but not others. Anyone any...

    Wood decay

I was painting the porch and I found that the cross beam upon which the slate roof rests is very rotted at one end. See here http://www.littersucks.co.uk/photos.htm What can I do? Could I cut the beam and rejoin it to a new section with metal braces holding them together? Cost?[/url]

    Chimney relining

I have been quoted £859 + vat to insert a 200 mm class 1 flue liner into my chimney with a gather at the throat and at the coping stone. 2 story sandstone house with good access around the gable and walls. Do you think this is a reasonable quote? ________________________ moderator...

    carrier bearings

I think it is unlikley to be the gearbox. There are various options - anti roll bar bushes are one, worn or loose engine mountings are another. It could even be a knackered spring or shock absorber.

    New Fiesta

I did take it to a pal who owns a bodyshop. He said that there was no evidence of a major prang but he couldn't be 100% sure. The car is also HPI checked by the dealer before sale (allegedly). They said that it is a used car and that is that. I told them that this was against the law and that my...

    New Fiesta

I didn't have the guts to prise the door up, but I did loosen the stiker on the door pillar and move it a fraction down. This seems to have cured the drop - but I noticed that the wind deflecting rubber that seals the gap at top between the door and the body is all chewed up and has been botched...

    New Fiesta

Thanks for the speedy reply :D I notice the slight movement when I grab the bottom of the door at the bottom left (furthest away from the hinge). I therefore have leverage against the hinges.

    New Fiesta

I have just bought a new fiesta (not brand new - 2 years old; 20k miles) and it drives very well. However, when I open the drivers door I can feel it 'drop' very slightly. When I lift the door from the bottom I can feel a tiny amount of movement. Is this the door pin or is a certain amount of...
