Appreciate the reality check. You're probably right — I think it's a case of diving in, trying something and seeing if it works. Worst case can always re-do it with lessons learned etc.

Thank you for the detailed explainer. A photo would be excellent if you have one. Your plan sounds feasible. Two more questions if you have a moment: 1. If I cock up the cement process, how difficult is it to remove the cement? 2. When you say 'in dobs' what do you actually mean?

If you look at my latest image, do you think your cement method could work? I think the goal would be to create an even surface over the bumpy brick and plaster section.

The window sill platform is very uneven and bumpy. What's a way to even this out? The goal would be to create a smooth and even surface to place the sill on. I have been playing around with plastic shims, but it feels very non-ideal.

Can anyone suggest a way to fix the problem here? How might I fill this massive gap?

Some additional questions: Red Xs These little gaps had crumbly plaster (which I scraped off). What should I do about them? Blue X This horizontal section is bumpy and uneven. Should I just level it with shims and packers?

I was thinking I could perhaps do a better job of it and seal it better etc. Do you have an alternative suggestion?

I removed the rotten wood. I think I will try and build a new wooden sill.

    Damaged Sill

Hello, My bathroom window sill is badly damaged by water (it is beside the showed and was a bad bodge job). I don't have the money for a full bathroom re-fit, so I am trying to find a DIY solution for now. Here is a plan: 1. Remove the wooden beam. 2. Fit a new wooden beam. 3. Fit a uPVC...

I didn't realise, but there is a reclaimed slate place round the corner. They sorted me out in about five seconds Thanks for the response anyway though.

    ID slate type

Hi guys, Any idea what type of slate this is? If it helps at all, a single slate dimensions appear to be: Width — 25cm 9.92inches Length — 46cm 18.1inches Depth — 1cm 0.39 inches Thanks
