What are these and can I remove them?

Yes absolutely, that's what I had intended, unfortunately the guy I hired (off Gumtree) to do the phone / TV / network cabling did the shoddy job you see at the top, even though I left him a load of conduit and elbows leftover from a previous project, which would have been perfect for burying...

What are these and can I remove them?

Ah well, I can't contribute to the technical conversation but I'll try not to worry about it, my builder seems to have done a good job generally. This is how it's ended up looking anyway: Both the edges and top of the trunking have been fully sealed to prevent moisture getting in - this is...

What are these and can I remove them?

Brilliant thanks Alastair. I have no idea why they are in the wrong place, would have to ask the builder who did my extention. Hopefully not too big a deal? I won't remove them altogether but I'll cut out just enough to run the cables through.

What are these and can I remove them?

Probably a daft question, but what are these plastic fixings, are they to do with the roughcasting process and can they now be removed? I want to tack those three cables just below the edge of the roughcast and then cover them with plastic capping but the fixings are in the way, can I either...

    Replacing windowsill tiles

I posted on a local Facebook page and a builder said they are called rosemary creasing tiles. Now that I know the name, there are a few websites selling them. Yes, they come in 265 x 165 x 10mm sizes but I can cut off the excess. Brilliant! Just in time, the weather is turning bad...

    Replacing windowsill tiles

I have a 1960s house in Glasgow, the window ledges outside are covered in red tiles that are plain quarry red, 23mm x 16.5mm in size and 10mm thick. A few of them have fallen and smashed and I need to replace them as a matter of urgency before the rain starts to get into the bricks underneath...

    Does my tank contain asbestos?

Yep, magnet sticks. Just Googled images of galvanised steel water tanks, there's some vintage ones being sold on eBay to be used as planters, they look exactly like the one I've got. I am starting to relax already.

    Does my tank contain asbestos?

Thanks John, I'll try the magnet thing. I take it if it was asbestos cement a magent wouldn't stick (stupid question probably)?

    Does my tank contain asbestos?

No John, to me it just looks like iron or aluminium, as I said it's quite thin and not at all like cement. It's hard to tell from the photos, I could try and take some closer ones.

    Does my tank contain asbestos?

I recently moved into a house built circa 1970 and found an empty tank in the loft. The home report suggests we should have it tested for asbestos, but having looked at photos of asbestos tanks, I would say this one probably isn't one of them. For one thing the metal is quite thin and it's also...
