Jewsons do a plaster board adhesive wich is good and i would use 12mm 8x4 tappered boards then tape and joint using scrim tape and gyproc easy fill (available from brewers or dulux decorating centres) so theres no need to plaster.

You can put an anti slip coat (from a good tile supplier) but they can effect the finish of the tile ie matt/shiney. Ask in the tile suppliers and they will give the best advise.
In reply to dho5. Easy fill is a type of filler that is easy to use and easy to sand. I would use gyproc sanding pads 120 grade (both available from good decorators merchants i.e brewers or dulux decorators merchants). as inferior sandpapers do an inferior job.

Try to pull the face of the paper off first and then wet the backing paper. Dont use a scraper that is to sharp as this will damage the boards. steer clear of steam strippers.
you can buy circular cutters wich are ilke circular razor blades. You cut out affected area and then cut out from a piece out of site i,e under furniture. Then stick new piece to affected area but be sure to have the pile running true.
if you really abrade the surface with a heavyish sand paper and use a good quality tile adhesive should do the trick. Ask your local, good quality tile shop (not tiles are us) numpties.
