    80A PME Fuse

Regarding upgrading 80-100a fuses, in SSE DNO areas at least, 100a cutout fuses are no longer permitted, if found they have to be changed to 80a on domestic installations. This is to protect the metering and customers equipment from overload as 100a fuses can withstand much higher load than 100a...

    Asbestos question

That is hessian impregnated with bitumen wrap over steel tape armours on the incoming cable. Doesn’t contain asbestos

    Tragic And Bizarre Electrocution

DNOS get many ‘wire down’ jobs called in and a lot of time they turn out to be telecom cables of some sort so turning the power off for each one would soon get out of hand cost wise as it costs them per customer per minute lost so if they have to turn the circuit off at the primary it would turn...

    Electrical kadjar 2019

Just a thought being a Renault, does the car have a BCM (UCH) module like a Clio does? This controls electrical items in the car, maybe this could be the cause of issues?

    9mm MDF for Cabinet Doors

I made mine with 9mm+9mm mdf strips for the shaker style decorative part sandwiched together with glue making an 18mm thick door. End result looks good considering I’m not a carpenter. No warping has occurred, also used 9mm quadrant beading for the internal edge which gives it a finished look

    Another oily cutout thread

I’m my opinion, it probably hasn’t been made off correctly using a heat shrink turret which would seal the end of the cable and prevent this from happening. I have changed many cutouts over the years and oil usually leaks out like this when the property is lower than the main in the road and...

    Metering of 400 amp supply

It will be much the same as any other electricity supply but on a larger scale with CT metering with an energy supplier installed CT panel above the cutout which they will fit a meter to

Unusual looped supply approach or something else?

Pretty standard 50’s setup this, originally would of been VIR tails going through conduit to next door, there is a separate 60a fuse on your cutout which is busbarred to the live side to feed the looped supply. These are a problem if that fuse blows and no one is in to get access to change it!

    High earth reading

I doubt it will be split conc, the service head is far too old. It will be PILCSTA, just with no earth at the consumers end.

    High earth reading

That’s right, and also years ago the earth was provided by lead water mains and since those have mostly been replaced with plastic, many houses are left with no earth

    High earth reading

Most probably, someone has ‘helped themselves’

    High earth reading

A few things- that cutout is ancient and has a rewireable fuse so could do with being replaced. The Tenby clip looks to have been installed by someone and has been put on the armours of the cable hence the high reading. The only real way to determine weather the earth on the supply is usable is...

    main fuse cutout

I’d guess it’s like this because otherwise you’d have a long run of cable under floorboards etc only protected by a substation fuse which isn’t safe. They must of moved the cu/meter position further into the building and one time. Might still be DNO property.
