Thanks guys- was thinking it was the thermocouple as I have had trouble in the past getting the pilot to light- will get an engineer to look at it just wanted a little knowledge just so I didn't end up with a cowboy as the misses would be likely to be at home, and she has a habit of just saying...

The pilot light is on and it appears to make all the right noises but refuses to fire. Any suggestions as to what may be causing this.
