Many thanks to everyone. I see the issue/risk is the cable so even though the cable to the garage will only be live when I use it (as i'll switch it on and off at the house when I need it) there is a risk I could forget to switch it off and also over time it will degrade and cold become...
Thanks.
What makes it unsafe/illegal? I don't understand the difference if I run my extension cable from the outdoor socket to the garage each time I want to use it or if I use a cable that's permanently fixed in place but only switch on when infrequently required?
The cable will run...
many thanks for your reply
It will be plugged in all the time in the socket on the outside of the house but won't be switched on unless needed (the outdoor socket is an IP rated switched socket). The cable (with plug) will then plug in to that socket, run along the outside of a building and...
Hi
I'm doing some outdoor wiring and I have a few questions I'm hoping some knowledgeable electricians can help with.
1. Wiring to garage. I have a kit which you drill a hole through the wall and plug one socket in to the household supply via an RCD plug and then an outdoor IP65 socket...
I think I have. I tested the lights directly (without the dimmer as suggested) and still no light so i'm going to try a new transformer and see what happens....
Thanks
Hi
I have 5 x 20w down lights with a 105W/VA transformer. The dimmer switch is rated at to 400w and has a sticker on it saying min 60w with following info on the packet
Use with most electronic, toroidal transformers and tungsten lamps.
No de-rating required. Resistive and inductive...
Thanks
I've tried the connector block and it doesn't work. The dimmer switch is one for use with low voltage transformers.
I think the transformer might have failed. How long do they usually last? I can hear the dimmer switch buzzing but no noise from the transformer?
Hi
I have a set of halogen downlights that I want to wire to a plug socket via a dimmer switch. The lights are linked to a dimmable transformer that has a live and neutral input and output. The dimmer switch has a L1, L2, and wiggly line (line out I think) and I have 2 core wire an standard...
