I'm afraid all I can add to this is that each of the boxes in that photo have 2 switches on them. All 4 of these switches are currntly in the 'on' position.
Thanks for the advice.
I tried the 'lamp test' again this morning bright and early (dark and early) but with different results, I followed your advice and used a lamp instead of my camera charger. Nothing happened this morning, flicked on the switch and tried to turn the lamp on - nothing...
The saga continues:
My off-peak electricity hours are 00:30 to 07:30 so I got up this morning around 7am to test if I was getting power from the faulty heater electricity source using my camera charger as the testing item (I fitted a standard plug socket yesterday evening). I flicked the...
Hello,
I've posted another pic as requested. I've moved the card out of the way so you can see a bit more - I can't open the meter up at all because it is all wired closed (presumably this is to stop people trying to fiddle their meter readings  ).
I didn't get a chance to fit the...
Sadly no instructions for the meter. I'm going to do the table lamp test then get a new switch if that doesn't solve the problem (as in, if the lamp works).
We actually only have three storage heaters although I think one has been removed and replaced (so, your right, there were 4 originally)...
You're right, I did mean the switch.
ok, I've uploaded some pics: Pic 1 is the fuse box which is in our flat. The other two pics are from the communal basement (we live in a flat) - each flat has the two boxes (pic 3), one of which is unlabelled and the other labelled "off-peak". Each flat...
ok, update.
I did as you suggested and unwired my heater from the wall and stuck a plug on it. Hey presto, it worked! So, the heater is fine. Is it possible that the economy 7 switch/timer is actually in the wall switch or would it be hidden away in the fuse box or something? I've attached a...
Thanks to the last two posters.
EFLImpudence - this is exactly the level of assitance I needed (as you can tell I'm not used to doing this sort of stuff). I wasn't trying to electricute myself and certainly wasn't trying to ignore your advice - I just wasn't always completely sure what you...
Hi natedog321,
I'm wondering if you ever got to the bottom of this? I'm in exactly the same position - same heater, same problems - everything.
Please let me know if you solved it!
Thanks very much for both your replies. I've only just seen these and went ahead and tried something last night - I removed the thermostat and all the bits connected to it (see the circled area in one of my pics (pic is called "circled") and swapped it with the same part from a different storage...
Hello,
I've uploaded some pictures into an album called "Storage Heater Pics" on my profile. I would like to start testing to see which part of the heater isn't working. Can anyone help me here? Where do I start and how do I do it?
Also, does anyone know if these things just have a reset...
Thanks people,
The heater is wired directly into the mains, there is an 'on/off' switch on the wall but no plug.
Yes, I do have a multimeter and (some) idea of how to use it although I'm not sure what to test first! Can you walk me through it step by step? I can upload some pictures if...
