    opening the chimney breast up

Hi Landcruzer, it went very well, the lintels were fine - building inspector happy with it all. Getting the linings down was £800 each (2 chimneys lined) which was the best price I could find.. took 4 people 1/2 day and 2 to fit 1 fire the other 1/2 day. The lintels were just called 'W...

    opening the chimney breast up

Work in progress - for anyone planning to do the same... Acro and strongboy in place just taken after knocking the old lintel out and enlarging for the new one - I wouldn't have bothered with the acro if there was a constructional lintel - you can see where i chased out the plaster looking...

    opening the chimney breast up

Hi, Building regs submitted, putting in a 1000x140x100 prestressed lintel and the 'W' steel ones for the cheeks. I'm going to use VITCAS HEAT PROOF SCREED to render the inside, but what do i then paint it black with? I'll check if I can add dye to the screed to make it black. If not...

    opening the chimney breast up

Hi, sure i can, now where did i leave that hosting site.... Looking through, it looks similar to //www.diynot.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=187253 and answered by noseall, only one course thick over the throat lintel, just not sure how to handle the throat. At the moment I'm thinking...

    opening the chimney breast up

Hi, Ive a chimney I want to open up to take a wood burner, only the current and i think original opening is only 20" across , the lintel being only 1/2 a brick wider than this either side, the chimney is 48" wide. I'd like to put in a new lintel and widen the cheeks out by at least 8"...

fixed ceiling shower arm and wall plate extention/support

Hi, I ended up getting a tap extender for the wall mounting and packing the outside bib fitting by 9mm to tighten it up, and a 40mm + 20mm extender for the ceiling shower riser, again with some packing on the bib union to get the level right. Couldn't find anywhere that sold the 1/2"...

My other option would be to use a socket and straight nipple with a backnut.

fixed ceiling shower arm and wall plate extention/support

Hi doitall/Kev, thanks, I've seen those which could assist in the solution, but I would still have to work out the fixing method which still wouldn't have room for adjustment, I thought about a tap extender too, but the same issue on fixing. I guess I need something between a bush and running...

fixed ceiling shower arm and wall plate extention/support

Hi All, Antony here, first time poster, many times reader ;o) I'm at the end of the bathroom project and have the ceiling shower to fit and the wall mounted handset outlet both are proving problematic! The ceiling arm is a nice chrome 1/2" connector but no extension to pass through the...
