Hi Bathjobby, Thanks for input. Have done that, very simple tray mechanism. It looks like the inflow is channelled through grooves in the 'roof'. I think it may be the outflow, but that works for the other two trays.

A few years old but well looked after, so (touch wood) first problem. The softener does not appear to be taken into the wash, and is still in the inlet tray at the end of the program. Until recently it appeared to at least have been diluted by incoming water, but just recently even that is...
