How to best insulate above and below a window

Besides cold air and cobwebs? Not a whole lot.

How to best insulate above and below a window

What type of vent would you recommend here? I also broke off a plastic trim exposing the cavity Was thinking of filling the gap with foam (something like https://www.diy.ie/departments/soudal-trade-window-door-gun-grade-expanding-foam-750ml/1785153_BQ.prd ) and finishing with plaster

How to best insulate above and below a window

I've updated some of the photos. There was a gap at the top of the window frame that has now been fixed. Below the window there are the yellow panels that can be removed exposing the timber and felt.

How to best insulate above and below a window

I had previously posted https://www.diynot.com/diy/threads/window-frame-falling-to-one-side.649352 about a window falling down. Now I want to insulate above the window and I'm wondering what is the best way to do this. As I understand if I do this incorrectly I can cause moisture to get trapped...

Window Frame Falling to One Side

Just to give an update on this. I ended up getting someone in who jacked up the window frame and secured the window to the joist using the below screws https://www.screwfix.ie/p/timco-tx-wafer-timber-frame-construction-landscaping-screws-8mm-x-350mm-25-pack/200kg Also fixed the window to the...

Window Frame Falling to One Side

I opened up a panel on the other side of the house to see if I could get an idea on how that is held up. I'm starting to think the whole window frame is held from the top instead of the bottom due to the lack of a window cill. Any suggestions on what I should do next? I cannot see anything...

Window Frame Falling to One Side

I was able to lift the window sill and I don't think there are any structural issues with the house. I can see the outer joist looks to be fine and covered in felt. But I'm struggling to find what the window is attached to. Photo looking down from the window sill; I can see one of the screw got...

Window Frame Falling to One Side

This is the outside of the house. I'm thinking that has happened the outermost joist which is holding up the façade has failed. I don't see any other cracks inside the house. Both top and bottom window sills have dropped by 4cm. I'm guessing if I can somehow remove the outer panel I might be...

Window Frame Falling to One Side

However when I looked more on the outside I seen something more concerning. It's not just the window the whole front part of the house has dropped down by 4cm. I don't know if the black marks on the bricks here mean there has been water ingress which has compromised the beam running across...

Window Frame Falling to One Side

So I opened the window to see if there was any screw going right through but I cannot see any.

Window Frame Falling to One Side

I noticed today that the window frame (that spans two rooms) crooked and there is a big gap between frame letting day light in. It looks like it's falling into the internal cavity of the room. Would this be fixable without having to replace the windows/frame etc? I was thinking of exposing the...

    Replacing Corrugated Plastic Roof

The clear plastic sheet (even if it doesn't look clear anymore) has holes in it and I put duck tape on until the weather improved last year. Now I'm looking to replace it and I'm wondering is there anything I should take into consideration before starting this? Even the fixings. Should I try and...

New brushes, new pump or new shower?

So back in March I did open up the motor but I only got this far But tonight I finally got about to removing (cutting away) the plastic housing that hid the bearing which was covered in rust Knowing what I know now it probably wasn't feasible to repair this even if I had bearing pulling...

New brushes, new pump or new shower?

Unfortunately I didn't. I just replaced the shower with like for like and got a Mira Elite SE as it has exactly the same footprint as the QT. I still have the old shower as I want to open up the motor to see if I was right about the noise was coming from the bearings inside the motor. I still...

    Broken wet verge

During a storm the other week I noticed in my parents house a concrete tile had fallen down. When I got up to it I didn't notice any nail holding down the tile and it seemed to held in by the mortar. In the third photo you can see it's a very small run just from the chimney flashing to the...
