    Cleaning latex levelling compound

does anyone know the best way/product for removing latex levelling compound from the back of vinyl tiles? I have a job lot that have only been down a couple of months and have come up realy clean apart from a little bit of latex on the back of some of them. Thanks in advance.

    Bricklaying with soft washed sand?

Ok, thanks for the info. Might try blending a sample 50:50 with a proper building sand to see what sort of mix it produces, otherwise it'll be going in the ground one way or another!

    Bricklaying with soft washed sand?

Thanks for the response, do you know what else i can use this for apart from rendering, rather than wasting it? Sand blinding i suppose, or laying water pipe. Paving? Weak mix concrete?

    Bricklaying with soft washed sand?

I've got some 'soft washed sand' from the local builders merchant and have been using it to lay about 14m2 of brick/blockwork. I've been finding the mortar very difficult to work with, the water seems to come to the top pretty quickly ,and i keep having to mix it with the trowel every time i...

Using second hand windows - building control

Yeh as you rightly say I would form my openings to suit the windows I buy. Spoke to somebody today that reckons most double glazed windows would meet current regs although I wouldn't say I know him well enough to rely on this. Perhaps I'm best just speaking with building control when they are...

Using second hand windows - building control

I'm building an extension and have noticed that there are hundreds of second hand double glazed units listed on eBay/gumtree etc which could save me a few quid. I appreciate there have been changes in u-value requirements for windows several times over the past decade and so I'm assuming that...

Hearth extension - suspended timber floor

I have a 1930's house with a suspended timber floor and i am looking to extend the concrete/screeded hearth. Can anybody give me an idea of how this may have been constructed before i get intrusive at the weekend (brick pier from underneath with the floor joist cut around perhaps?) I need to...

    Sealing stove flue joints

I have recently installed a flexible s/s flue liner within my chimney as part of a wood burning stove installation. When connecting the flue joints up I used a red fire sealant (silicone) suitable for a constant 250degrees and 300degrees max, I've since red that stoves and their flue gases can...

    Temporary materials storage

I've got a load of materials together for an extension I'm planning including mdf skirting, mdf Cill boards, hardwood worktop, mdf sheets, plasterboard, vinyl, and a few other bits. My question is, does anybody have any ideas for an external temporary store To keep it in? I was thinking a...

    Iroko worktop options

Yes narrow stave, that is what I meant. Think it's iroko, they are the tops from old school art/science/technology benches, so pretty hardwearing. Considering the work involved, and the potential irritation caused working with the timber, I'll probably router (dog bone) and join the tops...
