    Rolling pool cover

The castors are sitting inside the 75x50mm box frame and are 80mm. As the sit 30mm outside it leaves 50mm of the castors still in the frame. The maximum size castor I can manage is 120mm which leaves only an extra 20mm outside the frame

    Rolling pool cover

It sags without the decking by 10-20mm so it can roll over the pool (as the castors at the sides provide 30mm clearance). With decking on I need to raise the whole frame by an extra 40mm as it sags so much in the middle. If I could reduce the sag to a maximum of 10mm with decking this would...

    Rolling pool cover

Thanks. This was my original thought. I think if I change to bigger aluminium it would need to be massive, but could be welded to the current frame. Steel would be ideal as much stronger but very hard to weld steel to aluminium (hence bolting it on). I think I’d need to have actual...

    Rolling pool cover

Thanks again, love the thinking! Probably not able to provide the lift needed to support the weight while rolling on/off the pool though. Anyone with any structural engineering skills?!

    Rolling pool cover

Thanks for the diagram, this would fit and could work!! It’s not the neat solution I was hoping for ( having to fit/lift off 2 beams to use the pool) but am grateful for your thoughts. FYI, when the pool cover is over the pool or on the decking there are screw down brakes along the long edge and...

    Rolling pool cover

Thanks, I agree this could support the centre from sagging. However, I would need to keep the height as low as possible so this is a sadly not an option. Does anyone have any suggestions for the stainless steel box section I had hoped could work? Thanks for all your suggestions.

    Rolling pool cover

Ah, I see… makes sense. unfortunately as the pool edge is pretty flush with the decking, it won’t be possible to put a support beam there. The beam would obstruct the rolling of the cover. It would somehow have to be flush with the top of the pool, and I’m not sure how I could secure that. Not...

    Rolling pool cover

Thanks, I have castors in the middle already so it is solid when it is on top of the decking. The problem is rolling on and off the pool as there is nothing to support the central castors. Thanks for ideas though please keep them coming!

    Rolling pool cover

Thanks, there are massively expensive commercial ones. They uses much larger aluminium box sections, but I wanted to keep the overall height as low as possible.

    Rolling pool cover

Hi all, please help! I have an in ground swim spa and have failed to make a rolling pool cover. The idea was aluminium box sections 75mmx50mm 3mm thick. This would contain insulation foam and roll over the pool. Unfortunately the aluminium is too soft and the deflection is such that it drags its...
