The point is I am trying to avoid draining the system. It is old style with a header tank and it always takes ages for the air to bleed out of the system after refilling etc. Repacking the gland is a far easier solution

The rad valve (non TRV) on my radiator leaks if the valve is opened. I was hoping to pack the gland as shown on several youtube videos. The gland area doesn't appear to be like the standard valves in these videos. Has anybody seen valves like this and is it possible to undo the gland nut and repack?
