Cheers PJ and Chris. Shall have a look at it in the morning. I know each of the downlighters has its own transformer so I shall get one the same to replace. This is a marvellous forum!

Ok next question please! I have a downlighter - wired to a transformer - that comes on when I turn on the lights but after a few minutes goes off. Then may come on again....I initially thought the transformer may be too close to the bulb and overheating but have moved it further from bulb but...

Yippee! Thanks very much - all fixed and working - loose wire in switch causing problem. Single mum with screwdriver wins again. :)

Thanks for that - will have a look at the switch and or replace it first - my DIY skills will run to that - and then seek out junction box in loft. Do you reckon a fault in the switch would be obvious or should i just replace that anyway?

My bathroom lights (Have 5 halogen downlighters) are not always working when i turn on the switch - and then sometimes they do! My logic is suggesting it has to be the switch (as when they do come on - they ALL come on). Its just a white plastic inexpensive light switch - is it likely to be...
