    Hotpoint BWM12 Fault Code

Hi, just moved into a house with built in BWM12 washing machine. A few minutes into the program, the program wheel keeps clicking round and the mains light flashes twice repeatedly. I gather this is an error code, but can't find what the code means. Setting the washer onto a spin cycle...

Another Motorised Valve / Cold Rad Problem?

Just a quick line to report a success! :D I changed the cylinder stat this weekend, and now have hot heating and hot water at the same time! Thank you so much to all who contirbuted to this thread, especially MANDATE and newgas. Not only have I fixed my heating problem, I've also learnt a...

Another Motorised Valve / Cold Rad Problem?

Ah I understand! So the 2 way stat switch could be breaking contacts to switch off the boiler, but not making contacts to power the grey wire and move the valve. Cheers for the explanation, you have been and are a great help.

Another Motorised Valve / Cold Rad Problem?

Does it send a signal to the boiler on a different wire then, to tell it to turn off? Anyway, tonight I have left the hot water on at the programmer along with the CH, but with the cylinder stat turned down to 40. The rads have all been hot all evening and the house is roasting! I think I...

Another Motorised Valve / Cold Rad Problem?

Quick question - At the moment HW only is on, boiler ran for a time then stopped, but there is still no power on the blue wire from the stat to the grey wire on the valve. So this means the stat is not satisfied, but why has the boiler stopped running? Shouldn't it keep heating till stat...

Another Motorised Valve / Cold Rad Problem?

newgas, thanks for this advice it does seem a sensible way to go, as at the very least it eliminates the stat as a problem. Interesting to hear you've seen the same problem. As you say, can always return it.... Regarding the balancing, I did think this originally, and tried turning all the...

Another Motorised Valve / Cold Rad Problem?

Ok reckon I've got this now. In order for the CH to heat up properly, there has to be power on grey wire. Achieved by power from one of the two blue wires, either because HW isn't on or HW is satisfied. This definitely happens when I turn off the HW, and also when I turn the stat right down...

Another Motorised Valve / Cold Rad Problem?

That is right. CH only = all rads hot HW only = water hot, upstairs rads warm, downstairs cold CH & HW = water hot, upstairs rads hot, downstairs cold I'm not certain whether the valve is moving to CH only or not. I thought I would see the lever on the valve move, but apparently this is not...

Another Motorised Valve / Cold Rad Problem?

Hello, thanks for taking the time to reply. Sorry for not responding sooner, work gets in the way of my amateur plumbing. Right to answer (c) above, with HW only on, boiler runs, rads downstairs are cold, upstairs lukewarm. The wiring to the stat appears to be as follows: Brown Wire...

Another Motorised Valve / Cold Rad Problem?

Thank you all for your replies. I will check the cylinder return valve tonight when I get home to see how open it is, and also whether when it's off it stops flow to the hot tap. It looked like I might need a special too to adjust the valve? Does that sound familiar? Sure I can find...

Another Motorised Valve / Cold Rad Problem?

Ok thanks that makes sense. There is no other valve between the motor valve and the cylinder - just a branch off that goes up to a bleed screw. There is a valve on the pipe that goes in at the bottom of the cylinder - is this the cylinder return? Apologies for my lack of familiarity...

Another Motorised Valve / Cold Rad Problem?

Ok this is news to me, from what I had read I thought you could change the valve position by moving the lever. with hw/ch on rads cold with ch on only rads hot. is basically correct, although I thought I could get it to heat by moving the lever to open position! Regarding the boiler...

Another Motorised Valve / Cold Rad Problem?

Hi hopefully someone can help me out a bit here. I've had a search and done a bit of reading up on the subject, but need to ask a few specifics so here we go. I think I have a problem with the motorised valve on my central heating which is causing the downstairs radiators to stay cold when...
