They are not rods, but springs. Will post pictures here once I get it off.

Nothing at the rear. But I just managed to remove the plastic cap, and unscrew the grub screw and it seems the tap is now moving up and down easily. It seems that if I undo the nuts holding the copper pipes I should be able to remove the tap and the get access to the bracket from above. Thanks...

Hm, I see this plastic cap but am struggling to remove it. There might be a grub screw as you said behind it.
