    You misunderstand, the 500H x 215 W x 500 D is the dimension of the padstone as I stated, NOT the beam ? The beam is 203x203 x46 UC. But this is detracting away from original post as my plans have been passed and I was just offering advice. I hope the gentleman gets it checked and correctly...

    well, that is exactly the calcs I had to use on only a 2.9 m span so, as I said belt and braces, but all the correct calculations will be on the structural engineers report ...if there is one ! :lol:

    All new beams should be in accordance with structural engineers calculations and should first be passed by building control then, assuming that it is a load bearing wall and for a span that big it would need to sit at least 200 mm bearing each end on a padstone, personally I would use 500 H x215...
