    Thanks for that, Yes I heard about sand and cement but thought (Probably wrongly) that it would crack very easily with thermal expansion. what S&C ratio 3:1 , 4:1? Has anyone used lead wool?

    According to my old man who was a plumber before the rise of the Roman Empire, he would caulk with just hemp first, and then hot lead. From What I have read elsewhere it should be hemps oaked in Pine tar/Stockholm tar (?????) then hot lead. Most deaf'n'dumbers today avoid cast like the plague...
