Swaging vs crimping - same thing?

Hi all, Am involved in heated debate, so heated that I have registered here just to get my answer once and for all! I know the term swaging is usually used to refer to the punch swage you hammer into the end of a pipe section to increase the end diameter. But I'm seeing some instances...

Removing carpet staples / floor staples

stillp you have a good point, haha! I'm just too eager to try new things I suppose - removing stuff with pliers I've done, shearing stuff off with bar claws I have not. I'll stick traditional and save myself the extra hassle, though. Cheers!

Removing carpet staples / floor staples

Thanks stillp - does that remain an issue after carpeting over?

Removing carpet staples / floor staples

So, I’ve ripped up some old carpet from my new-ish house finally, and now I need to remove the staples from the floor. I read somewhere that you can use a floor scraper to shear off floor staples by running it over them repeatedly, which seems useful, but as I don’t have a floor scraper I was...

what is up with the paint/walls please

It could be damp, but seems to be covering too wide an area to be caused by leaky or faulty plumbing - crazy coverage. If the paint was painted on before the plaster was dry, and wasn't a breathable one, then the plaster would have had no breathing room to dry out and would have stayed damp...

    Your best tool

I have an extensive collection of crowbars, a weird hobby I can't quite explain. I rarely have need to use any of them, but I like the things; they're simple, well made (the ones I buy), and ancient. The principle of using a rod type structure and claw as a lever and pry seems to go back...

    Another crowbar question...

I have a thing for the little blighters. This is purely a thing of curiosity, though - my bonsai claw pry says it has a 'low profile' claw, enabling it to fit into tighter spaces. What does this mean? Does it relate to angle, or thickness? I imagine it might relate to angle, as I'm...

Can this orange worktop material be identified?

Let us know if the onyx is any good, I'm very curious!

    Mountain Biking

Went out with a champion bmx cyclist once, used to go and watch her go and perform but don't ride competitively myself, much too dangerous! I'm a regulation wuss.

Echoing the other replies. Arrester is the usual fix here!

Can this orange worktop material be identified?

Couldn't say for sure - it looks like it could potentially be resin, but I couldn't say that with any positivity. The finish in your image looks pretty scratched and worn, which makes me think this probably isn't the best work? I wouldn't be looking for an exact match for this reason. If...

    Staircase painting....What paint?

Zinsser B-I-N is quick drying, so I guess that's a priority for you? The best under and topcoats for quick drying will be water based. But it depends on the finish you want. If you want an old fashioned gloss finish, go for an oil based paint for both under and topcoats - you can get some...
