Planning to replace flat roof with fibreglass

Hi all, I recently noticed the felt at the edges of my garage roof have split and all of the chipboard sheeting in that area has been getting damp. The roof could do with replacing (patched a few areas last winter) and as part of it covers the kitchen extension I figured time to bite the...

    Noisy auto-bypass (rushing noise)

Did you ever resolve this completely? I have a similar issue, with a Honeywell DU144 too so it's interesting that others seem to think they are noisy valves. I partially re-plumbed my system as the previous configuration was incorrect - it had 6 zones (totally excess to requirements) and was...

Heating modifications - advice / sanity check required

I've been reading some more on this. As the cylinder is vented it seems like this is a 'safe' re-design. What might make more sense is to install the new CH two way valve, re-instate the Cylinder valve and then install a bypass valve across either one of those valves.

Heating modifications - advice / sanity check required

I have and I don't want to. Suggestion defeats the point of this forum. I can simplify it for people who find reading difficult: Question - 1) Can I set up an S-Plan style system but skip the hot water valve - instead leaving the cylinder hot water circuit permanently open and wiring...

Heating modifications - advice / sanity check required

Hi all, I moved in to my current house about a year ago. I'm by no means familiar with heating / plumbing systems however I'm generally pretty handy and pick things up quickly. My heating system needs some minor modifications before the Winter really sets in. I have spent the last week of...

    Outbuilding damp advice needed

Recently moved home and there's a nice hobby/workshop outbuilding in the garden. It's a single block construction on a concrete base. Definitely has some damp issues as it had a very damp musty smell. I pulled the pinboard wall covering off in one half of the building to find some nasty...

    Dodgy looking material

My dad said the same thing, he said he's 99% sure it's not asbestos. I'll remove it all at the weekend as there's damp getting in somewhere behind it. Will hose it, mask up and wear a disposable coverall anyway just in-case it's not what it seems.

    Dodgy looking material

Hmm, was just those fibres on the broken bit which scared me a bit given that the HBR said the ceiling was possibly AIB (that's the painted stuff in the pictures). Here's a close-up: http://s1330.photobucket.com/user/JBFUK/media/House%20Stuff/2013-10-09214641_zps83d9084c.jpg.html?sort=3&o=4

    Dodgy looking material

Moved to a new house a few weeks ago - it has a nice block constructed workshop in the garden. The homebuyers report flagged up that the internal roof of the workshop is possibly AIB (which in itself is ok so long as it's painted and not disturbed). Went out there to start cleaning the floor...
