    Expanding silicone sealant?

Hi all, Feels most relevant in the ‘Building’ section. Is there such a thing as expanding silicone sealant, or a.n.other waterproof sealant? Basically waterproof properties of silicone with gap filling of foam? We live in a flood resistant property and need to make a soil pipe penetration...

Brining a water supply in externally?

Hi all, We have an extension that at some point we would ideally take a water feed to - due to a number of factors, going through the house is not possible. We have our mains water pipe in the drive that we could connect to. My understanding is that any mains water feed has to be buried at a...

Part J: help interpreting combustible materials regs

Hi all, Having a challenge interpreting Part J of building regs, specifically distance from log burner to combustible materials; in this case an oak mantel we are about to install. Our Stovax Stockton 5 stove just lists ‘N/A’ as distance required above the stove. My (perhaps incorrect)...

    Understanding RSJ fireproofing/compartments

Good morning experts, Just looking for some advice to help with some post flood renovations that we are doing. We are creating a new ensuite in an existing garage conversion that has a bedroom above. Structure isn't changing, just gutted it because of an abysmal (but bc signed off) insulation...

    Floor support post?

Good morning all, We're currently working through knocking around an existing bedroom above a garage. This includes a new staircase, the existing of which took up a huge amount of space - so we're trying to rationalise and create as much floor space as possible. Our architect, who...

Shower tray with waste at opposite end

Thanks both; thought as much but just wanted to double check!

Shower tray with waste at opposite end

Morning all, Hopefully a simple question! Is there any reason why I can't fit a rectangular shower tray with the waste at the 'opposite' end to 'usual'? Basically at the walk in end rather than under the shower itself. Would make the slotting of waste pipe into a gypsum screed much, much...

Externally run pipes - Solar PV mounting system?

Hi all, I have previously asked about possible ways of running 2x 28mm Flow/Return and 2x 22mm Cold/Hot to a remote annex. I can't find that thread now so apologies for asking another one but this might be useful for others searching in future. So this may be a very stupid question but here...

    Sitting kitchen units on plywood?

Good morning team, Not sure if this question sits in woodwork/carpentry or flooring but here goes! Just had a DIY-Kitchens delivered (Linwood range in Carbon, absolutely fantastic quality for anyone thinking of one) and need to make a start on getting it fitted. The fitting will be taking...

    Pipes run within cavity wall?

Sorry, hopefully final question as an alternative. Could all 4 pipes be run externally, above ground level in Armaflex, then an insulated box built around them, fitted with cement board and then rendered?

    Pipes run within cavity wall?

Could they run behind skirting board in a channeled out section as a possible alternative? Obviously skirting would need to be glued only and not tacked or screwed

    Pipes run within cavity wall?

Thanks Denso. Does that include if within conduit? The 22's would be easier to replace. Really struggling for any possible alternatives. The wall they need to cross has bifolds and the whole room has a pitched 'cold' roof so no cavities to run in!

    Pipes run within cavity wall?

Sorry, should have added that all are plastic, a combination of Hep2O for 28mm and JG for 22mm.

    Pipes run within cavity wall?

Hi all, Is there any reason, regulation or otherwise (aside from best practice) why pipes cannot be run within the cavity wall? I need to get 2x 28mm (CH F/R) and 2x 22mm (H/C) to a remote part of the house and currently have a large section of the cavity exposed due to having to replace flood...
