Hi Mick Thanks for suggestions. Tried turning off mains water, turned the boiler off and restarted it - no joy. Heating still not kicking in when thermostat increased. "d" has gone again too - for the 2 times it has appeared - it's just been brief. Thankfully it's not too cold here yet...
