Many thanks for that, the reason the heat exchanger wasnt replaced was he ordered the wrong one and brought the wrong one with him, but once he removed it he said it was clear. I agree it should have been replaced. Boiler has been good for 3 days now, so Im just hoping it stays that way.

Thanks for that, I will mention the water sample as proof of dirty system. One last question, If I choose to clean and flush the system, Ive heard sentinel x800 is a good strong cleaner, but if I power flush 40 year old pipes is this likely to blow an old joint somewhere?
