    Turning the timer didn't work unfortunately - being an old oven it's an independent unit - just like an old school egg timer! Thanks for your help all and shout if you have any other ideas or need any more pics. Ta Jimmy

    Yes you’re right - it is a FCU. It does feed the double socket - but that's only got the dishwasher plugged into it which works fine. So the thick cable coming out the bottom must be for the oven and just at the top of the FCU between it and the copper pipe you can see a tiny bit of black cable...

    The socket still works, would that indicate it's ok? In the bedroom - it is next to the kitchen though Will do - unfort haven't unpacked yet and can't find my download cable but will post pics tomorrow morning. Here's the model for sale else where though

    Do you mean stuck on an auto programme? It doesn’t have a display or timing unit, just the oven functions (grill, fan assisted ect) and the thermostat plus an inbuilt mechanical timer (like an egg timer) that doesn't have any effect on the oven – ie doesn’t turn it off or anything.     Also it's a smeg SE380X - the fuse box remains on so nothing is tripping. The CCU seems to be working fine - well - the lights on!?

    My smeg oven has just died. I turned all the fuses off beforehand to rewire a plug socket after plastering, then after having turned the fuses back on the oven is now dead. Fairly certain the oven didn't trip the fuse, could the fuse have died from simply turning it off and on?
