    Wooden floor varnish problems

    I would say it's got something to do with being by the door - either through water being brought in by wet feet, or moisture coming in through the open doorway. Did you do three coats of varnish? Did you dilute the first coat by about 25% and leave it longer to 'set' that the other coats?
