May be a daft question but do you have a pressurised heating system and are the 2 pipes going roung the pillar for radiators. If yes does the boiler lose pressure and you have to top it up often. Hard to really tell from the pic. but I thought it might look as though it had a slight leak at the...

I can't remember now but I think i either measured or took the tap to my local ironmongers. Not sure about ptfe either but it won't do any harm to use both

I would not recommend altering the transformer. Use a normal socket and fit something like this so that the lighting circuit can't be overloaded by someone who is not aware of how it is connected...

It is allowed but not a diy job as far as I know and is notifiable which makes getting a reg. electrician to do it the easiest way.
