Radiator replacement - should we go for higher BTU than needed?

Yeah we will upgrade the valves to TRV on all the radiators upstairs. Would a gap of about 10-15 cm be enough you reckon between sofa/radiator? It's quite hard to know if the radiator was not good enough (could do with a bigger one though) or if it was just the lack of TVR that made it worse...

Radiator replacement - should we go for higher BTU than needed?

Hard to know what we should go for. Currently in the living room we have a small vertical radiator that the previous owner had replaced a few years ago. We did noticed that it heated the room not as well as traditional radiators but thought maybe it was because it was not big enough and close...

Thanks, i'll check with them. Would that be good if that's the case?

Radiator replacement - should we go for higher BTU than needed?

Thanks, from the online calculators the room would need about 5700-6000 BTU for the living room (room is only 4x4m - 2.3 ceiling). Do you think going to a 8000BTU is a good option? Also I've seen people talk about doing heat loos survey but it does look quite expensive. Our house is from the...

Radiator replacement - should we go for higher BTU than needed?

I see what you mean now, so even the designer tubular ones that are horizontal wouldn't be as good? If we went for an horizontal radiator and the sofa is in front of it we would go for a normal convecting radiator. The vertical one we were looking is this one, it's aluminium but not sure what type

Radiator replacement - should we go for higher BTU than needed?

Thanks. Our living room is 4x4m with ceiling height of 2.3 so on the low side. Do you reckon having a horizontal radiator behind the sofa instead could be a better option, and if so what gap should we leave between it and the sofa.

Radiator replacement - should we go for higher BTU than needed?

Yeah it does, but it's an old radiator (probably from the mid 90s when the house was built) so not sure what the output would be :/

Radiator replacement - should we go for higher BTU than needed?

Thanks for the info. We are also looking to replace the radiator in our living room. I think previously they had a big horizontal radiator but previous owner got a vertical radiator that wasn't really big for the size of the room. Plumber said getting a bigger vertical one should make a...

Radiator replacement - should we go for higher BTU than needed?

Thanks, we would get a plumber to install it anyway so maybe better to go with one supplied directly by then, I hadn't really thought about us having to deal with potential problems if buying directly. So do you think oversizing and going to for 3800 BTU instead of 2700 would be better idea...

Radiator replacement - should we go for higher BTU than needed?

Thanks i ve heard that was well but wasn't sure if the other radiator was a bit too much. Do you recommend getting the radiators through the plumber directly or looking at different options and buying online?

Radiator replacement - should we go for higher BTU than needed?

Looking for some advice on radiator BTU sizing. We’re looking to replace a standard radiator with a vertical one in our upstairs spare bedroom/home office because it works better for the layout of the room. Using online BTU calculators, the room seems to need around 2550–2650 BTU. The plumber...

Radiator replacement - are Aluminium radiators good?

Hi, We’re replacing our living room radiator with a vertical one and our plumber has sent a few options. One is a steel radiator (~5700 BTU) and another is aluminium (~8000 BTU). Our room only needs around 5600–5700 BTU, so both would technically be enough. The rest of the radiators in the...
