Gasguru, you are a genius! Had to remove the pump assembly completely to remove hose and it was packed solid. Rather than wait for a replacement I cleaned it out with a wire coat hanger. Apart from a few weeps that should sort themselves out, the boiler is firing away happily at 2.5bar...

Yes plumbplump the system was drained. I know the hose you are talking about Gasguru, looks like another round of grazed knuckles is on the menu. Thanks to both of you, I shall let you know what happens.
