Thanks for that. This is how the rads are tee'd downstairs. However where I have tee'd in, in the loft - I am using a flow and return from the boiler. If that makes sense?
Thats what he says he has done. He could not plumb directly at the back boiler as it is on the other side of the house.
My old system used to get slightly warm when the hot water was heating (due to the gravity side of things I believe). For that reason, he has removed the primatic cylinder...
Your loosing me on the primaries etc etc.
It is connected at the one pipe start. 15 feet away from the boiler.
I would try to draw you a diagram but I would seriously struggle as the vast majority of the upstairs is all hidden. I wouldn't even hazard a guess as to how it turns to two...
I understand that. However the system works quite well. Granted I have no TRV's and so the heating is a bit - on or off. But as I said, the boiler works great, rads get lovely and hot, house is warm and my gas bills have plummeted.
It just that one rad I need help with - the new one.
Mmm.
Diagram? Maybe not.
The system (from new in the 60's) is two pipe upstairs. The 22mm flow and return go into the loft from the boiler in the bedroom and then disappear into the dorma (its a dorm house). The flow goes down the chimney breast, through the old b/boiler, through each...
Dear All.
I fully appreciate that the real answer to this question is to repipe the system with two pipes. This would be something that I would plan for next summer, but for now I need a quick fix.
Last year I searched around for a firm to fit me a condensing combi and a two pipe system...
Thanks for all your replies!!!
The valves were fitted to the one pipe system some years ago by me. I must admit, they havent been overly effective - your explanations may give the reason for this!!
He isnt a young lad, he is very experienced and of course he has had to connect...
Hi All.
In answer to your questions, the plumber did consider that the pump may be closing the valves, as obviously the combi is not in the chimney breast and as a result the pump is situated in a different part of the house now. He ran the heating once, realised that this may be an issue...
Will do! I know the obvious is to repipe, but money and mess is the problem.
I will let my plumber work his magic, mention your comments and let you know how we get on.
Thank you very much for your help so far!
John.
The boiler itself is set at full and is showing around 82 degrees.
I have the room stat set at 21 but at -2 outside and the problems I'm having, it just isn't getting there.
As for series, that's just it. Will this pose a problem?
Thanks, John.
Alex.
Thanks very much for the reply. The heating system was fitted in 1967 and has been changed, updated and messed with ever since. Apart from the backboiler being very inefficient, the system worked perfectly well.
The piping as you explain it is as it is now. A 22mm pipe running...
Mmm. Struggling to answer really. I dont know much at all about the old boiler, specs etc etc.
As for the pump now, again not sure. One thing that I have noticed is that the pump is running continously when the heating is on and does not shut off at the moment.
