    Cooker control MCB size

tbh it's a bit silly to bother doing this, considering how cheap circuit breakers are. Your oven is a 13 amp FIXED load, so basically it means you are only going to leave 3 amps for the socket. Whilst it is still not illegal (ie it becomes a 16 amp radial) , it is asking to be overloaded...

    Help

I assume it's the old Wylex Standard Range? Is it a metal or a plastic enclosure that you have? Look for an old one on ebay, or if not, you'll have to fork out for a brand new unit, and rob the cover from that! If it's plastic, then this link might help you...

bad connections in phone joint box giving slower adsl speed

Obviously poor joint, increased resistance on the line hence lower transmission speeds. Will solder & sleeve it, and see if I can stabilise the bitrate to an acceptable level.

bad connections in phone joint box giving slower adsl speed

Cheers Softus Was wondering whether if soldered, RF might escape through the joint, and poss give crosstalk to the other cores, and slow the connection down. Obviously I'd sleeve them with heatshrink, but just wanted a telecoms engineer to tell me whether having a soldered joint would...

bad connections in phone joint box giving slower adsl speed

This is one for the telecoms engineers out there My adsl broadband connection can vary between 3.5Mbps and 5.5 Mbps just by me opening up a joint box in the house and squeezing the connector blocks with my thumb & forefinger. The connector blocks looks to be filled with a jelly compound...

    How I Rewired the Shed

I'm trying to work out why there is a 16 amp commando socket - which could never be used at more than 13 amps due to that FCU above it !! Why not just fit a metal clad socket for the appliance, or even wire it direct into the fcu!! Incidentally, on that picture of the commando install...

    Combined MCB/RCD

Is this a real genuine topic, or did JohnD put you up to it ;-) It's odd that he has'nt had his say yet!

RCDs - Should they trip without MCB

Did you replace like for like , ie 30mA trip current for 30mA??? How do you know whether your new RCD is actually working?? OK it has a test button, but it still could be faulty , ie too slow at breaking the circuit! It needs to trip within 200ms at 30mA (or 300ms if a BS EN type) and 40ms...

3 Single Sockets running off a Unswitched FCU, Is it Ok?

mdbalson, I'm not sure whether you have put these pictures up for appraisal, or for some criticism?? Does'nt look too bad, however, would have been better to take your trunking directly up from the accessory, as the way you have done it will leave wires showing to the side of the spur...

consumer unit change- filling in eic deviations

It is normal practice to fit one! Also, local isolation would be the major factor! Cooker switches are fitted for the very same reason!
