It was covered up, but it could have done. Is there anyway to check if its dead?

I had a leaking diverter valve, so I ordered the kit and changed the nut...all seemed to go ok, leak stopped, the heating and HW both came on. Heating remained on for a few hours. 24 hrs later, half way through a shower the trip was thrown int he consumer unit. I checked 3 amp fuse in the spur...
