Is this an old BT junction box?

Having had a closer look at the top section of what I was planning to buy, there’s no external access points, so am looking at bigger enclosing boxes that just sit on top of the old junction box to hide it. This one is probably a good option as it means I can cut a suitably-sized hole into the...

    Chasing out a tiled wall

cheers. Funny enough it's the titan wall chaser I've got as well! I suppose worse case it doesn't work, and I'll just have to take 5-6 full tiles out.

Is this an old BT junction box?

yep realized that afterwards. :-) Pretty certain its the block terminal No. 18 as you described. It just looks ancient, and also I don't like the way the cable just pops out the top of the pipe without any kind of cover over it. Have just come across this thing online...

Is this an old BT junction box?

Is this an old BT junction box stuck on the front of the house? I can see a cable coming up from a pipe buried in the floor which goes into this thing, and then from that another cable (2-wire) goes somewhere under the front porch. Was tempted to rip it off the wall, as we’ve never used a...

    Chasing out a tiled wall

Thanks, I was just going by Triton website, so assumed 10mm was a must So should be fine just to run on 6mm. However it looks as though the cable for the shower on the new Mira needs to be on the left, but on the original Triton it’s on the right, so probably best I take the opportunity to...

    Chasing out a tiled wall

I was getting ready to fit a new 9.5kw shower to replace my old 7.5kw shower. We had a full house re-wire a few years back and 10mm cable was run to the bathroom so no problem there. The problem is the last leg, from the isolator pull cord to the back of the shower (approx 2m run) which I...

upgrading RCBO for new thermostatic electric shower

Thought I’d quickly double-check to put my mind at ease. This is a photo of the cable currently running up in the loft across to the bathroom…

upgrading RCBO for new thermostatic electric shower

thanks, that's put my mind as ease. In that case I'll order a Hager 50a type b RCBO and fit it myself (y) Think I'll go with the 10.5kw shower rather than the 9.5kw option, as apparently they work better during the winter months when the cold mains supply often comes into the house at just...

upgrading RCBO for new thermostatic electric shower

I just would like to know if changing one RCBO for another RCBO is Part P notifiable work. If it is, then I'll probably get a spark to do it...if it's not notifiable, I'll do it myself. This is what I found online.... Notifiable electrical work Because of the safety risks associated with...

upgrading RCBO for new thermostatic electric shower

It seems to be definitely notifiable if you switch from an MCB to RCBO, but can't seem to get clarification if changing from one RCBO to another is notifiable or not, as it's not actually changing the protective device of the actual circuit...but then I'm not an electrician, so I can't say this...

upgrading RCBO for new thermostatic electric shower

fair point! :-) I guess ultimately I'm going to need that RCBO swapped out regardless (whether that be the 40a I have, or a new 50a) - can I swap them myself (non-notifiable) or do I need to get someone in?

upgrading RCBO for new thermostatic electric shower

Our old Triton T80 7.5kw shower is due an upgrade. We've had it over 10 years now, but it's never been particularly powerful, and also it tends to randomly go cold mid-shower for 15 seconds, before suddenly ramping up to scalding hot for another 15 seconds before resuming normal temperature...

New patio awning wiring - faulty motor?

Funny enough that was my original plan, to keep the original outdoor one, and add this new indoor one so that I’d have both options, however it occurred to me that there’d be a conflict between the two in certain situations. The outdoor switch has three options (open/close/stop) and if open is...
