I had exactly the same symptoms as the original post - it was the boiler thermostat - part number 907729 If you have a potterton boiler that takes along time to fire though, then it's more than likely the PCB see here: http://kaijaks.co.uk/blog/nick/2008/02/10/dodgy-old-boiler
