Thanks for your interest. Here are two photos showing all the wiring. I'm off to get a continuity and voltage tester which should, if I understand correctly, allow me to find out which wire is which.

My apologies if this has been answered already, but I've been searching all day and I can't find what I'm after... The bathroom pull cord switch I am replacing was a two way switch with COM, A1 and A2 terminals. The new one I've got is (presumably) the same albeit with COM, 1 WAY and 2 WAY...
