Running ethernet cable along external walls

Looking at running an ethernet cable along a stretch of external brick wall. Two questions, where would be the best place to source black cat5/6 that is suitable for sun etc? Clipping the cable to the walls, can I just use those plastic clips with the nail in, and hammer into the mortar? I...

    Consumer Unit Transformer

Had a thought, an alternative could be to use a PoE video doorbell instead. I'd have to read deeper to fully understand properly, but on the face of it I could get run some cat5 outside to the doorbell. So wouldn't have to touch the CU or house electrics.

    Consumer Unit Transformer

Either the Eufy or Reolink one. (Probably Reolink though) I'd rather put the transformer in the CU as it is the quickest/easiest option. But it seems there are concerns with overheating/fire?

    Consumer Unit Transformer

The video doorbells don't come with manufacturer supplied transformers as far as I can see. They might come with a DC brick for a mains plug, but I don't want to use that. One of the manufacturer's does recommend one off Amazon, but it's an Italian make I've never heard before, and not sure on...

    Consumer Unit Transformer

I'm looking to take out the crabtree one, and replace with another (2 DIN?) onel that would fit. There is one in Screwfix that seems popular, but I think this is not really designed to be under load constantly, rather only brief periods when someone presses the door bell push. My question is...

    Consumer Unit Transformer

Looking at swapping the current transformer in our CU for one suitable to power a video doorbell. Below is the CU with front cover off. If I found a 2 DIN size transformer, can they be swapped without having to remove anything else? Obviously I would knock off the main breaker, but do the...

    Doorbell transformer

I'll check tomorrow, but I think the house has T&E or similar running from the consumer unit transformer through the walls, to the front door into the back of a mechanical chime. There is then thin bell wire running from the mechanical chime to the door push outside. Perhaps one way around...

    Doorbell transformer

Found on the Eufy website they recommend a specific transformer (Verma off Amazon), that is 24vac 30VA, but unfortunately is 3 DIN wide. I've only got a 2 DIN gap, so could maybe opt for the smaller 24vac 15VA transformer, which may or may not be enough to power the doorbell. Also wary of...

    Doorbell transformer

Hi all, Looking to replace our old school Byron wired doorbell with a video one. Was looking at hard wiring one in like the Eufy one, and maybe even trying to utilise the old Byron chime on the wall. It looks like the video doorbells need meatier transformers. The transformer already in my...

    Wooden threshold replacement

Hi all, The wooden threshold at the French doors between rooms is wearing away, and splintering. Looking to replace it, so have a couple of questions. How is it likely to have been fixed in? Thinking maybe glued or friction fit, as can't see any screws? Was thinking easiest solution would be...

Hiding wall mounted TV cabling behind wall

When I fitted the TV wall bracket, I borrowed one of those stud finders for the vertical studs. For the life of me I couldn't detect them with any confidence, so ended up doing several investigator pilot hole to see which ones has wood dust on the drill bit! Aren't there always horizontal bits...

Hiding wall mounted TV cabling behind wall

Ah didn't think about noggins. Presumably there is a high chance one will be in the way. Sounds like a pain if so, as you have to drill through them?

Hiding wall mounted TV cabling behind wall

Got a TV I've mounted on an internal stud plasterboard wall, and a TV unit below. Currently got all the cable coming down from the TV in conduit, but it looks a bit crap. Was thinking of making a small-ish hole at the top and bottom, and feeding the cables behind the wall instead. I've never...
