Haven't done this for a very long time so things may have changed, but I would say floating engineered boards on underlay - but the very best advice will be given by the board supplier.
Haha, if only it was that easy. The house is at the end of a cul-de-sac and has quite a bit of land to the side, and it's more about room layout than trying to gain a few measly feet.
Thanks for your reply John D, when you say 'at a cost' does that mean additional work was needed to to then reinforce the wall, if so could you expand.
Personally I would want the post and drill laying horizontally on a bench or board - with a bit of packing and side stops, you would have to set-up for the fist one, then simply repeat the process on the following posts.
The one you suggested my be a bit flimsy and possibly difficult to 'seat'...
Victorian end of terrace house - is it possible to remove the chimney stack and breasts from the gable end wall, or will it weaken it too much?
I haven't bought the house yet, so apologies for limited pics.
Thanks in advance.
You could buy a vintage horizontal drill stand for less than a tenner, like this:

make a quick jig, job done :)
PS. Might be worth drilling a pilot hole first, then...
