The wires in the switch are 1 grey and 1 red which were both connected to the same terminal and 1 red to another terminal, also a green connected to a separate terminal.

I haven't connected any of the wires as I can't buy a switch until tomorrow. The wires are hanging out of the ceiling (not touching) and yet the light is still on.
