I usually use a coat of undercoa then gloss. But I'm thinking could I use eggshell?

Used sand paper 240 grade this afternoon came out nice, :) thanks Did the hall way last month but didnt sand down and the difference is actuallt visible looking closely

is it worth sanding after the undercoat has dried with fine paper or is it ok to just go ahead and apply gloss? ie - will it make much difference in the finish? thanks

^ was thinking of using 1700 or 1400. my walls are flat, just in a few places there are raised bits of where the plaster has been patched up. all large cracks and holes have been filled and sanded. do you think the finish will come out well with 1400? cheers

I was in the same situation as you. used heat gun stripped back to bare wood. long and tiring process, but you'll get there in the end

removed loads of wood chip last week and it did come off in clumps, sheets! :) used a steamer to loosen off a corner and then slowly pull the paper off by hand as much as possible. rest remoed by steaming the walls clean

Right, I've almost finished stripping all the woodwork from my hallway - skirting, banister what not, using a heat gun and scraper. However this has left nasty 'varnish' like residue underneath and bits of paint in the wood. Is there a chemical avaiable which could clean all this up without too...

I'll be using lining paper in a week or so , so glad I read this thread! Been to b & q who have 800 and 1000 grade paper (b and q value own brand, any good?), don't have 1200. would it be best to use 1200 as someone suggested on this thread or would 1000 suffice to cover the old but...
