    Animal in the ceiling

It must be at the top of the 2nd floor. I haven't seen the access point itself, don't know what it looks like. I don't know if it's nesting, have only seen one bird there and the sounds in the ceiling space have been there for over 2 months, although this was the first time I heard them myself...

    Animal in the ceiling

A long overdue update... I bought rat traps, but despite having done measurements couldn't get them through the downlight holes. So I put a mouse trap in with a square of chocolate. For a long time nothing ate it; today I checked and it was finally gone, the trap had been triggered but there...

    Animal in the ceiling

I was considering that possibility. He's slim so could have made it up the downpipe.

    Animal in the ceiling

I hope it can be done in a lighter-handed way. I've been quiet because I had a lodger in there and didn't want to be too intrusive, especially since he was moving out. Now I can go in in full armour. I put two squares of chocolate on strings the other day and they're completely gone. Is it ok...

    Animal in the ceiling

Solid brick. The outside has pebbledash, which provides good enough grip for a squirrel to climb all the way up (as I have witnessed). Not sure about mice and rats. The dormer has stud walls and its roof is of similar construction - two layers of plasterboard with insulation in between. I'm not...

    Animal in the ceiling

It's a solid wall house with a converted loft. The loft room is a bedroom in use, there are no droppings in there.

    Animal in the ceiling

It scratches so it's probably a mouse or a squirrel.

    Animal in the ceiling

Ok, I've ordered an endoscope. Do you guys think it's trapped or it's just that it has found a home in there? If it's the latter, perhaps a repellant spray, applied through the downlight holes, could sort it?

    Animal in the ceiling

Thanks for the ideas. Any thoughts on the ultrasonic repellents that you plug into a wall socket? Perhaps I could wire one into a downlight to bring it closer to where it's needed? Also, do you think a mouse trap could work? Granted, it may be something bigger. I've seen a squirrel climb the...

    Animal in the ceiling

Is it likely to go away on its own? How could it gave got in there in the first place?

    Animal in the ceiling

There is an animal in the space between the ceiling and the roof in my loft dormer. I don't know if it's trapped in there or living there on purpose. It runs around making sounds and then stops. How would I go about removing it from there? The ceiling has downlights, so I guess I could take one...

Ripped off by hob repair service?

Thanks guys. A new hob would have cost me £130 or so, I'd still have had to get a gas certified engineer to install it though. I'll use a local company in the future. I couldn't find one (with good reviews) at first, but admittedly didn't search thoroughly. The local company the job was passed...

Ripped off by hob repair service?

Hope this is the right place to post it. It's about a gas hob, but has to do with electrics and not gas. I have a gas hob with 4 burners. The electric ignition stopped working on two of them. I booked repair with a nationwide service, which uses local firms, and the payment plan I chose was a...

Ionisation smoke alarms triggered by steam?

Thanks, I've vacuum cleaned it, but only from the outside, i.e. by holding the nozzle to the grille, without taking the detachable unit off. Hope this helps. If it doesn't, I'll take it off and give it a more thorough vacuum clean.

Ionisation smoke alarms triggered by steam?

I have three BRK 670MBX ionisation smoke alarms. The the ground floor and 1st floor ones go off frequently after cooking in the kitchen or using the shower, apparently triggered by steam / humid air. I reckon this is not normal, they should only be triggered by smoke? The product has good...
