thanx 3500P5BV8, i am going to replace the washers in the stopcock as there was a small leak there a short time ago

When a cold water tap is turned off there is a banging noise that comes from the pipes somewhere. Have replaced ballcock and valve. The banging is interrmittant during the night when the water system is inactive.
